Saddle up! This time we're heading to the American West with Great Western Trail, a strategy game designed by Alexander Pfister.

You'll take on the role of a cattle rancher, driving your herd along the trail to Kansas City, where you'll deliver your cattle by train. Along the way, you'll hire workers, construct buildings, improve your railway network and add more valuable cattle to your herd.

There's a lovely mix of deck-building, worker management and strategic planning, with plenty of different ways to earn points. You'll need to decide how best to develop your ranching business while keeping an eye on what your opponents are doing.

As part of our We Read The Rules So You Don't Have To series, we'll teach you how to play and guide you through the game, so there's no need to tackle the rulebook beforehand.
