Coming on your own?
Solo visitors are especially welcome at Outside The Box.
Lots of people who come to our clubs and events arrive on their own. You don't need a partner, a group of friends or even lots of board game experience.
Whether you're looking for some company during the day, a social evening out or something new to get involved in, we'll help you find something that suits you.
LOOKING FOR SOMETHING RELAXED, FRIENDLY AND ACCESSIBLE?

Chatty Café Wednesdays 12 – 3pm
Best if you're mainly looking for company and conversation.
You don't need to play a game at all. Chatty Café is a relaxed drop-in session for anyone who fancies getting out of the house, having a cuppa and chatting to other people. Come on your own and our team of volunteers will help you feel at home.

Light & Lovely Games Club Thursdays 3 – 5pm
Best if you'd like to meet people whilst doing something together.
A relaxed afternoon of lighter board games that are easy to learn and don't need lots of experience or complicated rules. The group chooses the games and Helen and Rachel will teach you how to play. Most people come on their own.

Scrabble Club Fridays 3.00 – 5.30pm
Best if you already enjoy Scrabble and would like some people to play with.
A friendly, informal Scrabble session for people who enjoy the game and fancy playing with others. You don't need to be an expert or arrive with an opponent – come on your own and we'll help get you into a game.
LOOKING FOR A WEEKEND EVENING ACTIVITY?
Many of our Friday and Saturday evening events are booked by individual players, so you don't need to organise a group before you come.

MAHJONG

Join us for a sociable game of British-rules Mahjong. We have a regular Mahjong Club for those who already know how to play, and we also offer beginner classes and private tuition if you'd like to learn.

Enjoy a sociable game of cards at Outside The Box! We host regular sessions featuring favourites such as Canasta, Poker and Bridge. Come on your own and join a table of fellow players.

CARD GAMES

SPECIAL EVENTS

Fancy something a bit different? From wine tasting and trivia evenings to mystery-solving puzzle games, we host all sorts of special events throughout the year that are perfect for solo visitors.
READY FOR SOMETHING A BIT MORE IMMERSIVE?
If you're ready for something a little more immersive, strategic or involved, these events are also great for people coming on their own.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS
Love a good story? Join a group of adventurers, create your own character and see where your decisions take you. Our D&D sessions are all about imagination, teamwork and shared adventures. Beginners are welcome.

BLOOD ON THE CLOCKTOWER
A lively social game of bluffing, deduction and a little deception! Talk to other players, uncover clues and work out who you can trust. No experience needed – the Storyteller will explain everything

WE READ THE RULES...
SO YOU DONT HAVE TO
Fancy trying a new strategic board game without spending hours learning the rules? We do the homework so you don't have to! Join a small group as we teach the game and play alongside you. Some experience of modern board games can be helpful.

What happens when I arrive?
If you're coming to an event, just tell us what you've booked when you arrive.
We'll show you where you're sitting and introduce you to the other players. For our social clubs and many of our events, coming on your own is completely normal.
You don't need to worry about finding somebody to play with before you get here – that's our job.
Still not sure what would suit you?
Pop in and have a chat with Rachel or Helen, or get in touch and tell us what sort of thing you enjoy. We're always happy to point you towards a club or event we think you'll enjoy.
